Ms WD is DEFINITELY next generation AV

    Hi folks

I know a lot of people disagree with my thoughts on the current state of 3rd Party A/V systems these days on Windows 10 (ON HOME --not CORPORATE type computers) but people should perhaps read this to see where the next generation of protection is coming from :

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...ntivirus-tests

Also follow the link in the article to : Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (Microsoft Defender ATP)

I'm currently perfectly happy with WD and nothing else -- and it is updated very frequently indeed so is far more likely to be up to date than anything else --especially with loads more Windows builds appearing almost weekly.

    Cheers

I use WD on most of my computers backed up by Malwarebytes.
Mainly because its a pain to transfer Norton (which I have subscription to)
    to the others.
I agree WD works very well on them.

I also use WD + Malwarebytes.

I wouldn't call WD next generation though.

As its opening paragraph makes perfectly clear, that article is about enterprise threat protection not independent users of Windows 10 Home.

And there have been many references in other forum threads to Windows Defender's excellent comparative results in www.avtest.org assessments.

What I don't like nowadays is that Microsoft's antivirus doesn't include protection against different types of viruses (malwares, ransomwares and etc) and people use for viruses - Microsoft's defender and for other type of viruses - malwarebytes. And considering how popular became those different types of viruses nowadays, I think it's time to change Microsoft's defender and any other antiviruses that doesn't provide protection for those other viruses and with change I mean to include protection for all those viruses, so by default any antivirus comes with protection against all types of viruses and not by some of them. In the current state, it's all confusing and complicated. Why not unite all these into one? Why just not have one antivirus that would protect you from all kinds of threats, rather than having a regular antivirus + malwarebyes for other types of viruses. Anyone agrees with me?

    Hi there

    @Ditendra

Actually IT DOES -- and not only that you are likely as well in future updates to get an Enterprise resilient protection system even on Windows HOME users -- Ms is updating the whole security to "Windows Protector" and as it is making huge efforts to protect its enormous customer base of its AZURE cloud base services it can only be 100% good thing that this security is passed down to Windows non enterprise users -- e.g home type systems,

Bye-Bye Malwarebytes, Avast, Norton etc etc --you had your time in late C20 -- in C21 threats are hugely different -- malware and PUPS are so "Old School" -- prevention against scamming or infrastructure (this one not relevant to Home computers but of course very relevant to big national infrastructure projects or national issues such as defence, power generation etc ) is the name of the game these days.

Average security I.T officers IMO these days are just basically "jobsworths" -- probably would be better collecting parking fines at a local hospital if one overstayed by 30 secs !!!!

Note -I'm not rubbishing security on big Infrastructure / National type systems -- my remarks are 100% concerned with HOME (or small "Mom and Pop" type home Lans / SOHO type systems . Also people running public forums etc need to be well protected -- I repeat my remarks are directed for people using HOME individual computers or Lans or SOHO systems.

I know I'm often on this section rubbishing these 3rd party AV products -- but seriously guys a HUGE amount has changed - not only with the sort of attacks one gets on computers but also the robustness of the current Windows (and Linux) builds -- we have moved a long long way from the old WD on W7 etc which was a real joke.

If you get PUPS these days you must be doing something really idiotic on your systems.

Confession here -- I've used TPB to get some things not available elsewhere -- even if I wanted to get them legitimately -- never a squeak of a PUP etc --and to salve my conscience I do give a bit of money back to the Musicians union.

So please Mawarebytes users and others == post the last PUP you got , whether malwarebytes or WD found it (or both) and where did you get it from.

"Case solved M'lud -- next case please".

    Cheers

It's rather strange to highlight Microsoft/Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection when discussing HOME systems, as ATP is only available for Windows 10 Enterprise E5 at a cost of $168 per year.

(I agree that Windows Defender is fine protection for home and small business use, but unfortunately ATP is not part of that.)
