Please try this - if your difficulty is not due to some corruption/Windows problem/3rd party program, this makes the job easy.
No need to mess about with permissions last I tried it.

Somehow I managed to rename the "desinfected" hosts file and stick another one in.
Unfortunately entries I had in there are lost - although it is now an ordinary txt file, it cannot be opened.
Thanks everybody for your help and stay away from Kaspersky. Their support sucks.
Get Notepad++ and open it from the Start Menu = run as administrator.
