    MalwareBytes Has Gone Into Hyperdrive

Today when I boot up my machine and use Firefox, I'm getting almost constant popups from MBAM that a site or other is blocked due to malware. Most of them are outgoing connections, some even labeled Microsoft.

I have not enabled any of the exception for these sites as I have no idea what is going on and why this sort of behavior has suddenly started. I'm even getting popups when loading MSN from the start menu. Was there an update to MBAM that I don't know about? Or could my machine be infected? All scans with MBAM, Windows Defender, and SuperAntiSpyware turn up clean.

    Any advice gratefully received.

Nothing has changed today or recently with MBAM as far as the version. Been the same for several weeks. If they are all outbound, sounds like something on your machine is trying to call home or elsewhere. That's not a block of anything incoming. I've had no rash of popups as you describe.

Try a different browser, even if it's Edge, as your default for a while and see if it continues. May help to narrow it down.

Also, if you are in East Canada and use a VPN, there have been some reports of VPN servers going wacko with DDoS attacks.

You're not alone. There are several new threads on the Malwarebytes forum about what you describe affecting more than just FF. It just started happening on one of my machine with Update Package Version: 1.0.11789 but not on my other with 1.0.11788. I get detections on the former computer, but not on the latter when visiting the same sites. I suspect a bad definition update. Malwarebytes are usually very good at rectifying FPs quickly. I've delayed checking for updates on the behaving machine until I read that they've fixed it on their forum.

    Hi,
I haven't seen any popups at all :/

Microsoft sites well they install like 20 million cookies... so anyone of them can be considered malware the way they act...

Ublock is usually busy blocking like 50... site objects....

Please run an update and if you still see the blocks then restart the program. It was a FP.

Further to my post above - it looks like those detections were happening on Update Package Version: 1.0.11788, not 1.0.11789 - that version should fix the problem according to staff comments on the relevant threads on the Malwarebytes forum. Try checking for updates on the Malwarebytes Antimalware dashboard if you are still having the issue.

I'm not sure why the other computer on 1.0.11788 was not seeing any detections. I guess Ublock & Umatrix were doing their thing. I suspect the computer that was picking up the detections had automatically updated itself to 1.0.11789 just before I posted - leading me to add 2 + 2 and come up with 75. Sorry to put you wrong.

That was happening to me too, on normally very safe sites. Seems to be fixed now, though. Just let Malwarebytes install latest update package.

I ran the MBAM updates and a reboot and the problem went away as quickly as it started.

Very odd. I must have been as @catspyjamas said. Just a bad definition package.

I will mark this as closed. Thanks everybody!
