Use the same and yes, both are running, There is a setting in MB3 that lets you not register Malwarebytes in the Windows Action Center which means it does not switch off Defender. And although WD is getting better and better I would never let just one program protect my computer as no program protects 100%. Ma;warebytes is designed to run along side an anti-virus and although they may call it an "anti-virus " program it really isn't, it protects in different ways.

    Hi.

That's only in the *paid* version and that's what I am not speaking of. MBAM is not a typical AV, but far more than that.
For example, it even does network inspection to block intrusion attempts.

    Each case is different.

In the "perfect" world MBAM should work fine in real-time with many AV's but it can also lead to conflicts and slow your system down.
On some configurations, I've gotten lucky, other not so much. MBAM is Anti-Malware rather than an AntiVirus.

Malwarebytes has been working with several AV/FW vendors to ensure that they do not conflict.
You have to try and see for yourself. Your system won't be "hosed." I also have it running on two W10 test systems, one is fine the other has MBAM using too much CPU cycles.

    Hope this helps.

There is a setting to immediately disable the real-time protection which you should do immediately. You cannot have two real-time AV's running simultaneously.

Seeing you said this I assumed you were talking about the paid version. Some people have had issues with their computer being slowed down but they are far and few between.

Virus and malware are the same thing, its all marketing. For example, Emsisoft Anti Malware is a anti-virus.

No, a virus is a specific type of malware. Many types of malware are not viruses.

MBAM had initally decided [several years ago] to focus on combating malware because the world had moved on from viruses. So MBAM did not contain any anti-virus measures at all.

    Hi there

These days with latest release of W10 builds you donīt need any other AV product paid or otherwise on Home computers running Windows 10 other than WD --Malwarebytes, Norton, Kaspersky, Macaffee and all the rest bring ZILCH to the table any more. Don't bother with them --really no need. Note Corporate and small office type LANs -- different - but on basic HOME machines you don't need these things any more on W10.

On W7/W8/W8.1 a different story of course but W10 security wise has evolved far beyond those OS's

I'll guarantee that none of these other products does any better (or worse) on HOME computers than properly / regularly updated W10 with WD.

Use them by all means if it "Gives you peace of mind" but in reality there's no need any more -- W10 has evolved believe it or not into quite a safe system -- and with Ms pushing hard to make its Cloud services e.g Azure a huge revenue earner it's not going to give itself hideous publicity by pushing leaky OS's out to the general public any more !!!!!!

Spend the money instead on getting a faster / bigger SSD or more RAM if you use paid versions of these things on W10.

    Cheers

jimbo, I really wish you would stop saying this over and over. I think you are doing people a disservice where Malwarebytes is concerned. It does things Defender doesn't do and has protected me from crap web sites numerous times, and no, I don't mean porn. just site that look legit but turn out not to be.

You say you;ll guarantee this but you can't. It's your opinion and that's fine but please leave it at that.

I have to agree about your seeming dislike of Malwarebytes. Ztruker said it well. Also MB runs well alongside Defender well and you get broader protection.

Taking that statement literally, it is incorrect. I have, and have had, both Defender and MBAM real time running concurrently, for a long time. Simply do not let MBAM register itself as the primary, and both will run. Also, MBAM suggests to create exclusions for MBAM and Defender, mutually excluding each other. That way, they do not compete by trying to check each other. All is working just fine, and no lags, or slow downs of any kind.
