    Mbam Pop-Up....Anyone Seen This Before?

I woke up my machine and a second later was greeted with this in the lower right corner:

    Mbam Pop-Up....Anyone Seen This Before?-mbam-alert.png

Hovering over the links didn't show the links in the lower left corner and I sure wasn't going to click on them, the only way I got rid of it was to do a re-start.

This is in Mbam free 3.7.1.2839 with notifications turned off:

    Mbam Pop-Up....Anyone Seen This Before?-mbam-note-set.png

I never turned it on but I did notice the mbam tray app running in task manager >processes >apps and shut it down then did the re-start and haven't seen it come back.

So I ask; Has anyone seen this behavior before?

Several people in their forum have mentioned that they got this popup as well, it is from Malwarebytes and not a scam. I am betting that is was some sort of foul up and by tomorrow it will be a gone, never to be seen again.

Found one mbam forum thread: v3.8x - Disable "threat Watch" notifcations

Here's another: Threat Watch Popup Notification

Then one guy can't turn on the ransomware: Ransomware won't turn on

Sounds like problems in mbam designer land. My v3.7 free is getting an alert meant for v3.8 paid, the alert looks different and has an extra link. Mbam user's seem upset that this happening and should be done differently like sending alerts through the registered emails.

Thanks for adding to my workload tomorrow when all the staff sees this popup and asks me if they have been hacked. A popup is NOT the place to advertise for your blog. Send me a newsletter email.... Worse you can't disable the notification. Really poorly handled.

I've seen enough, we can keep commenting but I'm marking this solved.

    Hi folks
with latest versions / builds of Windows there's really no reason to use MBAM any more --WD soon to be renamed Microsoft Defender (MD) is probably as good as any domestic / consumer grade A/V program you are likely to get now. (And it's updated almost daily too). MBAM would be better IMO trying for a contract with Ms to co-operate on corporate and cloud security such as for the AZURE business.

Malwarebytes buying things like the various ccleaner type of programs is really the wrong way for this type of business to survive in 2nd quarter of C21.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I wasn't on-line and I got another pop-up. This time I looked in notifications and mbam was in there so I clicked on mbam and then on quit mbam, and the pop-up disappeared instead of doing a restart like the last time to get rid of it.
All notifications are off in mbam settings even the one to start when Windows starts.

Still solved but 'Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me', if this continues I'll just uninstall mbam and go to something else as a stand-alone scanner.

I like this post from mbam's forum:

I agree with Bubbha only I derogatorily call 'em brainiacs, bean-counters that have a corner office without windows and all they have to do all day is think of ways to fix something that isn't broken, and then don't understand why the fix only made things worse.

I suspect mbam is doing it this way because it costs $ Money $ to send email notifications like this but doesn't when you can set a script or .bat file within the program to fire off a pop-up like this, say once a week, and its been 6days since I got the last one.
