In any case danger IMO today comes far more by scamming, fake web sites, identity theft, e-commerce fraud etc etc so that's where you need to concentrate your efforts on. These types of scams can't be handled by any amount of Virus protection but need a bit of "Brain Usage" !!!!!.

jimbo, I don't doubt info in your post at all, but in my case, McAfee Multi-Access Total Protection is provided free by my ISP ( Cox). They have informed me to install it, to protect my pc's to the point of almost a threat indicating Sality was on my pc and they would terminate my services if I didn't use McAfee and solve this "infection". I complied (even replaced pc and router) using many malware removers, etc but found no problems on my pc. I didn't like this attitude at all, but they are the only game in town that is acceptable for Internet, so I have it installed along with Defender and haven't seemed to have any problems. Cox does check my account, I know, as they told me so. Sometimes, it's easier just not to buck the system!

Get rid of McAfee i have had on all my laptops and had nothing but trouble with it! i used there uninstall app mentioned here and also ran CCleaner and Revo which got rid of the last traces of it i use Windows defender and have had no problem with it at all my friend goes into some dodgy sites and WD still does its job
