Setup BitLocker Encryption On Win 10 Pro 64Bit Solid State Drive(SSD)?

    Hi,

I am running BitLocker encryption on two other Win 10 Pro 64Bit desktop computers with HDD's,
but can't seem to get my other Win 10 Pro 64Bit desktop with SSD drive to work?

I can get as far as rebooting to test the system with BitLocker,
but after reboot it says: "BitLocker could not be enabled"?
(just boots normally to desktop - not asking for BitLocker password like it should)

Any ideas on how to make this BitLocker work on SSD(Solid State Drive) on Win 10 Pro 64Bit?
    Thanks!

Jesse, I have no idea why you are having problems getting BitLocker to work on an SSD. I had no problems whatsoever getting it to work on my Samsung 970 EVO, which is a PCIe NVMe SSD.

Your post is inadequate: it lacks many details which might help someone diagnose your problem. You should start with complete details of your SSD and perhaps your computer, and then list all the steps that you took to try to set up BitLocker.

I have no idea if this will help you, but I posted full details of how I configured BitLocker on my system here.

    Hi,

Here is more info about the desktop:

    System Specifications:
    - Windows 10 Pro 64Bit Version 1903
    - Intel Celeron J1900 2GHz 4-Core CPU
    - ASROCK Q1900M Motherboard With Current Non-Beta BIOS
    - 16GB DDR3 RAM Memory
    - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB Internal 2.5" S.S.D. Drive

Desktop does not have a Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
so I enabled: "Require additional authentication at startup"
in "gpedit.msc" under: " Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > BitLocker Drive Encryption > Operating System Drives"

I then enabled BitLocker in Explorer for the system O.S. drive.
All goes well and it reboots to test BitLocker on the SSD drive
but it show error on reboot: "BitLocker could not be enabled"?

    Any ideas?
I've done the above on two different desktops with HDD's with no issues.
Seems to be an issue on this desktop with SSD drive only...

    Hi,

Forgot I had a graphic card:
    - nVidia GeForce GT 1030 SC 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express GPU with current non-beta drivers

    Also, in the BIOS:
    - UEFI is disabled
    - Secure Boot is disabled

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Seems like Secure Boot and UEFI must be enabled for BitLocker to work?
I cloned the SSD to a HDD and then converted the disk drive from MBR to GPT using mbr2gpt in command prompt.
After reboot the BitLocker test was successful and then Windows encrypted the HDD.
    Thanks!

Yes, I installed again the SSD and converted it to GPT.
BitLocker is working now on the SSD with Secure Boot and UEFI in BIOS on.
    Thanks!
