    Most often used with xp is Free Antivirus for Windows - Open source GPL virus scanner it isnt resident so no overheads and its very well established

    I just installed an XP version of AVG in a XP VM which works fine.

    I use Clamwin AV. It's a Open source GPL virus scanner.
