According to Microsoft’s own numbers, 18% of Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices are using Defender and over 50% of Windows 10 devices are using this built-in solution.

I've been running Webroot since around 2012, excellent protection, and very light on resources.

On Windows XP and Windows 7 I used to hop around from one antivirus to another.

Windows 10; use Defender and very occasionally run an on-demand scan with something like Malwarebytes or Hitman Pro.

Defender has its quirks (what antivirus doesn't?) but for the most part it has become a pretty solid solution for average home users.

I disable Defender through Group Policy Editor. . I use Malwarebytes, but I don't have it to start up when Windows starts. I only turn it on when I want to update the virus definitions. I also scan for viruses once a week, usually at night when I am asleep. I put the PC in safe mode when I do it.

WD likes to remove my files, so I have no choice, but to disable it. I prefer to install Panda Dome, a cloud AV.
