Windows 10 Firewall Blocks Defender Update

Hi, all. I just joined minutes ago.

My Windows 10 Firewall blocks my Defender from downloading new definitions (WTF???). It used to work fine.

If I turn off Firewall, it updates no problem. I've created as many inbound and outbound rules as I can think of for all of the .exe files in the Windows Defender folder, but nothing works. Removed them... still doesn't work. It always gives me "Check your internet or network connection and try again" Error code: 0x80070422. So, I can turn off Firewall temporarily to update, but still a PITA.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.

Can you try resetting Windows Firewall to its defaults?

Does not WD download signatures via windows update? Do you have svchost.exe allowed (TCP Out 80/443)?

Thanks for the input... I'm concerned about resetting WD since I have a lot of rules set up and it would be quite a hassle to reset them.

Not sure about svchost.exe, but I have Windows Update blocked... I had to, and did it through Windows Support. I tried to get Update to work, but it would auto start on it's own and keep me from working. Best guess from Windows Support is that it's a motherboard issue that won't stop until I replace my motherboard.

In any case, even with Windows Update blocked, WD would update just fine. It did it for months, no problem. And it updates perfectly fine on it's own when Window Firewall is off.

OK, I have just checked and WD checks for updates via svchost.exe and downloads them most likely via its TCP Loopback, since it shows no process name. MsMpEng.exe has connected probably for a cloud check.
