Seen that on one of my systems, i'll have to check in a few days if its still happening, i just ended up turning back on, forgot to report it like i should've right then.

Will check on it in morning on said system, and deal with that

Still have 1 PC running Avast Free, may drop that to, as not seeing any real performance problems or issues besides that using Defender on the 2 most used systems thus far, I think will be fine actually with Defender active on all 3, and just run Malwarebytes Free scan off and on is my plan right now

@AMDMan2016 -- So far so good with Tamper Protection staying on. You can't go wrong with Defender and Malwarebytes Free, coupled of course, with common sense. I gave up on Avast years ago when they started bloating it up and then there's the ads.

For me, Tamper protection consistently turns off when installing Windows Defender updates (KB2267602). Immediately after updating if you check tamper protection it is off, when it was on before.

I thought perhaps the update required a reboot (even if it didn't warn me of this) to re-enable Tamper protection, so I rebooted to test it out, but it was still off after reboot

This happens whether I use offline updates downloaded from Microsoft, or automatic updates from Windows Updates.

I take back my words, it is specifically KB4052623 which turns Tamper protection mode off, not KB2267602. I got things mixed up because both KB2267602 and KB4052623 are typically offered as Windows Defender updates on a fresh install of Win10 1903. But installing those updates sequentially, I found that only KB4052623 shuts off the Tamper protection mode, and the only way to turn it back on is manually. It doesn't turn back on upon rebooting.

Tamper protection mode does stay on after switching it on manually, but I still think that Windows 10 updating itself should keep this setting on after an update if it was on before the update, and this should be automatic, without user input.

Interesting find. KB4052623 is the update for the antimalware platform and while I never thought to link it to the tamper protection mode, I have found that every time I get one of the antimalware platform updates, Windows Defender's tasks in the task scheduler all revert to "the task has not yet run". Eventually, the tasks start running so that's probably normal behavior. BTW, my tamper protection has stayed on since manually turning it on. Good catch!

Where do I find Tamper Protection and the setting to turn it on or off?

I updated to v1903 two days ago and just noticed now a yellow flag on the Defender icon showing tamper protection is off. I don't have KB4052623 but KB4497935 and KB4497165 have been installed since I updated to v1903.

I had an alert that it was off too so I dismissed the alert in Windows Security.

Open Windows Security, go to virus and threat protection, virus and threat protection settings, manage settings.

Friend and I updated to 1903 May 21st and the tamper protection alert (for her and me) happened before we got KB4497935 and KB4497165. She also got the antimalware platform update and tamper protection alert a few days before I did. According to an MS blog, antimalware platform updates are monthly. Could it be possible that it went in on your system behind-the-scenes while updating? -- presuming it's the cause of the alert. After turning tamper protection on, it has stayed on and the other two KB's haven't affected it.
