Windows 10 Pro Virus and Treat Protection - cannot set anything

Hello I have just upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. I am running Windows defender and Malwarebytes. I am having some problems with the Virus and Treat Protection settings. I notice that many of the settings are set 'off' and I cannot turn them 'on'. I have an administrator account. I cannot add any file exclusions or run any scans. Any idea to how I can solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Avast (free version), which I took off and put on Malwarebytes. It was a fresh install and not an upgrade from Windows 7.

So just to clarify, this wasnt an upgrade? Was a fresh install from a DVD/USB?

So all data was wiped during and a brand new fresh Windows 10 install put on?

If it was me bud, id reinstall again.I know its a pain but if its freshly installed, there something not gone right.

Your windows isnt updating in the background is it?

Worth checking if got any updates but dont just take windows updates word for it, click check for updates and make it do a fresh check.

Was your windows a fresh download from Microsoft also?

Yes, it was a fresh download from Microsoft website. I was going to do exactly what you have suggested, thought I would give it go on the forum just in case there was a solution. I think I am going to go back to Windows 7 Pro - prefer it to Windows 10. What is your opinion?

    nah, keep windows 10 buddy.

Your just having a few teething issues.

Before you reinstall, check windows update though.

Ive had issues that have almost made me rip my hair out to reboot the pc and be greeted with Configuring windows lol.

Even if it says up to date, still click check for updates :)
