Controlled Folder Access - Smart TV unable to see local files?

I have a smart TV that I have successfully been able to watch my local movies (stored on my win10 PC) via my LAN network (Ethernet).

Recently my TV stopped 'seeing' my PC? I checked the usual suspects and could not work out why this had suddenly happened?

Solution; I realised I had recently invoked Controlled Folder Access (CFA) on my PC. So I turned off CFA and voila. My PC is now visible on my TV.

Is this a known 'problem' with CFA? I know CFA is design to protect my files.

Is there some way I can apply CFA and still be able to watch my movies /photos?

Normally I don't have media streaming turned on. Rather than call for a video FROM the PC using the TV's controls, I prefer to sent the video TO the TV using the PC's controls (right-click on video, select 'Cast to...').

Are you using Windows 10's native media streaming? Did you turn on streaming in Windows Media Player?

I have had controlled folder access turned on since it was first introduced. As a test I have just turned on media streaming. My Panasonic VIERA Smart TV can see the PC's library and play the videos without having to turn off CFA, so I'm puzzled as to why yours cannot. Have you tried turning CFA back on once the TV has found your PC? Does that block access again?

The only other thing I can suggest is that you click 'More streaming options...' and check that your SmartTV is still enabled, and that its custom settings are appropriate.

    You are correct @Bree.

I now have controlled folder access and can 'see' my local movies from my smart TV.
