super slow and had 4 virus-malware in hundreds

its asus note book pc Q504U stock with 1tb drive with 850 gb free space, has 12gb ram core I5 cpu.
    boot time maybe 10 minutes.
ran sfc scannow and it passed ok.
ran dism restore health, recheck sfc scan now and it passed.
upgraded to win 10 1803 to 1809 which took 6 hours and it succeeded, win 10 defender said no malware.
Ran malware bytes and found 208 removed ok.
Ran Hitman Pro and it found 4 virus and loads of pup, quarantined all.

so far not much has helped with performance, but getting rid of the malware sped it up a little, now 10 mins to boot to working desktop. Loading Chrome takes 4 minutes, then a minute to load a web page. Clicking windows menu at first load takes several minutes to see anything. it was never this slow except for last 6 months. this has basically become almost unusable. So what can we do?

Try preforming a clean boot and see if that helps or even safe mode. It might be a startup program or process.

Your best bet is to back up your data and do a clean install.

Next bet is to do virus scans from a "pre boot environment", either from a "rescue" disk or PE environment. See this link for a place to start. I like Bit Defender and Alvira . I ALWAYS run scans from at least two different providers. (There are many).

Also try Windows Defender Offline (Settings>Windows Security>Virus & threat protection>Scan options>Windows Defender Offline scan).

Also disable all unnecessary startup items. (Right click on taskbar, left click on task manager, left click on Startup.

Do the last two items anyway.

If still not happy, run an anti-virus rescue disk.

A clean install should always work, but requires the most effort.

If you open task management goto startup it tells you what impact each program has on start. Have you checked disk for errors? Problem is often down to 5000 spin speed of he with SSD load time should be about 15 seconds
