Talking about malwarebytes. I had to take my purchased copy off because it clashed with advanced system care and kept quarantining it. There was a dispute a couple of years ago because MWB accused Iobit of pinching their databases. It was supposedly settled between themselves but MWB still refuses to let it run. The last time it did this, over a year ago, Iobit told me to 'white list' them in MWB, I did and it made no difference. Until they settle their differences MWB has to go as ASC is a paid up version and still has 11 months to run. The pro version of ASC is damn good.

Defender is running well, I check it every couple of days and all is green. Maybe I dont even need MWB now??
You may be having trouble with Malwarebytes paid version because its a Real Time scanner whereas the free version is a manual scanner. Technically you aren't supposed to run two real time scanners together. You might not need Malwarebytes at all..youre right. I run it once a week usually...just to verify that Windows Defender isn't missing anything

one of my daughters has just called, her KTS has 20 days to run and can I renew it as she likes it very much. I read in amazon that I can get new licence (5 pcs) for £26 and add it to existing KTS. Is this for real, is it possible?

But her computer can be better off with WD just as yours can.

What any advertiser says on Amazon might match licensing info on the Kaspersky website but, if it does not, then the only safe purchase would be from Amazon itself and not from one of its potentially fly-by-night Marketplace sellers. But, of course, this is all academic because you will be using WD.

I will suggest to her that she uses the KTS removal tool and defender will kick in

    Hi there
For 99% of Home users there really isn't any need to pay money for any A/V software --If you just look at all the improvements in basic Windows security being incorporated into the latest "Preview builds" 19H1 and 20H1 you don't need any 3rd party extras paid or otherwise.

The 19H1 (1903) update is getting near RP and should be on general availability by Windows update soon -- however even today the standard WD product in Windows is light years better than older versions.

It's really a shame that Windows didn't change its name -- back in W7 days WD was just a basic antimalware thing -- now it's a decent AV program but some people probably still associate it with the old rather useless product.

Windows also incorporates an antimalware system as well so things like Malwarebytes are also really not needed either -- a lot of these AV programs were developed to solve C20 hacking etc - not needed in C21 as the OS is adequately defended by the standard product built into the windows kernel itself.

Also if you surf safely, avoid fake websites, don't give out too much data on social media, take care with e-commerce / online shopping, never touch email from unknown sources other than to delete without opening it and when downloading from torrents or anywhere else ensure you check that the download is what you want and don't accept any extra offers etc then you won't get scammed and your computer should be just fine.

I can't believe it when you go into a retail store and salespeople are telling customers to pay extra for Virus protection or load up the computer with temporary trials of typical AV software which just interferes with the machine -- MacAffee comes to mind here and it's quite difficult to uninstall it 100% --there are others as well.

I usually advise people to completely wipe their machines and do a fresh Windows install again to remove the bloatware (saving the original image first of course just in case !!).

For people running businesses, networks etc there's different considerations needed -- my remarks here are directed at home individual users probably running Windows Home edition - but a few on Professional as well.

    Cheers

The two major 'conmen' in he industry has to be McAffee and Norton. They embed their little gems in software that has nothing to do with AV or Internet Security. If a person installs via the default, they do not see the please untick this box if you DO NOT want either of them. I always use customise install on anything I can. Sometimes, like my new graphics card software from MSI, Norton somehow sneaked into my machine. I grabbed geek.exe quick and deleted it. I will remain with defender and will advise my daughter how to download and run the Kasperski Remover - kavremvr.

I've been running both Defender and Malwarebytes Pro on my system for 5 months now. Haven't seen any conflicts. They seem to play well with each other.

I have noticed on my system that Defender seems to detect only well known viruses while Malwarebytes will detect any malware programs... so it seems like good team work.

Yeah..thats exactly the reason why I run Malwarebytes free once a week just in case it ever picks up something that Defender has missed...but so far it hasn't. Still, IMHO its better to keep running MB now and again. I don't think its a good idea to rely on just one Anti-Malware programme anyway. I think Malwarebytes can sometimes be a bit over sensitive. It did once detect a PUP but it was just a common Dell Utility. It definitely wasn't malware so after checking up I just ignored it

I use Advanced System Care (Pro) to clean it up every 3-4 days. Malwarebytes quarantines it as malware. Its wrong. So I choose the lesser of 2 evils and dropped MWB (Pro).

I spoke to my daughter about KTS and she is going to go it alone by purchasing a single licence to keep her copy on her laptop running. I will stay with defender.

There's nothing wrong with that. If your daughter feels more secure using KTS that's OK. A lot of people still don't have confidence in Windows Defender even though the reviews it gets nowadays have improved a lot
