Defender - "This setting is managed by your administrator"

I got fed up with AVG finally and fully uninstalled it with their removal tools. Now I'm trying out Windows Defender to see how I manage.

But under "Virus & threat protection settings", I can't enable Real-Time protection. It's greyed out and says, "This setting is managed by your administrator".

I have shutup10 installed so I'm wondering if that is blocking it, but I don't know which setting would do this. At first, all 4 settings in shutup10 for "Windows Defender and Microsoft Spynet" were enabled (blocked), and Defender wouldn't even turn on. I disabled all 4 in Shutup10 and now Defender is running, but I still can't enable Real-Time protection so I'm thinking something in Shutup10 might still be preventing it.

Any suggestions on what to try? I tried disabling everything one section at a time in Shutup 10 but unless I missed something it hasn't helped. Maybe it's something else?

Okay, I got it going by downloading a reg file from a guide on this site for enabling real-time scanning.

    - What locations are scanned when you simply click "Scan now" and it says "quick scan running"?

    - If I temporarily disable real-time scanning, how long before Windows turns it back on automatically? Will it stay off until I reboot/log off & back in again? If so, then that's fine. I just don't want it to automatically turn back on in 10 minutes or something. Sometimes I may want to temporarily keep it disabled while I'm downloading or extracting a large file, or backing something up.

    - How can I check to make sure there are no scheduled automatic scans? I only want to run scans manually. I don't see any option under "Virus & threat protection" for scheduling scans.
