    Can't Open Windows Defender

I ran into the first problem with my image I stripped down with MSMG, I can't get windows defender to launch but it's running as a service because it quarantined a file I was about to use. I just can open the app to release the file from quarantine.

While in Windows Security, I clock on Virus and Threat protection and get a popup that says, "You'll need a new app to open this windowsdefender". Any suggestions how I can get around this error or reinstall windows defender without loading my machine back up with windows bloatware? Anyway to manually un-quarantine a file (where are they stored)?

I did run sfc /scannow but that didn't fix it.

ps... During the strip down I removed the store and all the metro apps. Didn't know any was needed for defender or that defender was left on the machine for that matter.

Unfortunately 'Windows Security' is one of the metro apps you removed. To help you reinstate it, these are its properties (version 1809).

@Soapm - I will pm you a link. Personally I've removed Windows Store and Store apps along with Windows Defender.

You should be made aware that if you use the info I sent then Security Center will show Defender is installed even though it isn't. Also if you change your AV the old one will be shown.

I guess my question is why would it remove the gui without also removing or stopping the service from running in the background?

Any idea where the files are quarantined and how I can retrieve it?

I hope the good news is the folder is still there, anyway to restore the app using a powershell command?

Search for the file name using wildcard search (partial) so file name enclosed in asterisks.
