    Windows Defender not scanning

    Dear All,

I was recently checking my windows defender setting and decided to open windows defender setting from search, which opened up this
    Windows Defender not scanning-security.png.
surprised, I decided to open up virus & threat protection to check from there but this showed up with most items showing not available.

i tried to to update but it wont do anything. I tried to manually update (downloaded from Microsoft website). it still dint do anything.
then i decided to check Virus & Threat Protection settings and this showed

Therefore i decided to download malware bytes and found 16 threats, report attached

Please help me out on what I should do next. if you need anything else.. please let me know!

    You have Trojan.BitCoinMiner

Download and run Rkill (stopping malware processes)
Run Malwarebytes again (enable rootkis this time)
    Download and run ADWcleaner

Edit: add Roguekiller to the list... to check if your system is cleaned.

    looking good to me

    Windows defender is working now?

All this is after system restart? If so, Make the backup Image of clean system in case you get something nastier

    Start with running sfc /scannow

    check if services are running:
In Run dialog box, type 'services.msc' and hit enter. search for 'Security Center'.
Right click on 'Security Center' and click on 'Restart'.
    Check registry:
navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options.

if there is any entry for MSASCui.exe, MpCmdRun.exe or MsMpEng.exe then right click on it and click on Delete. If you do not find any of these entry then it is normal and you don't need to do anything.

I have scanned using sfc /scannow and it is clean.

In services, I found security center but I cant access any option when right clicked (grayed out)

I was only able to find MsMpEng.exe and I have deleted it.

Guess last one was in registry.

Try 2nd part again (after restart) - services.

Edit: Do you have any other anti virus installed? Check, if there AV like McAffee, or Avast in Programs

Edit2: Was that successful? If not, I would suggest repair with in-place upgrade (mounting ISO of same version of Windows and running setup.)

You never reported, if you have other antivirus solutions installed. In that case, you would have to use their cleaners to uninstall.

Sorry to hear that anyway. Hope reset will work.
