TPM or NO TPM That is the Question
I have an Asus ROG Maximus Hero X WI-FI-AC and, even though this is built for gaming I use it for everyday work. I have two Two Samsung SSD's, the 970 Pro M.2 which is C drive and the 860 Evo is is D drive. I have done a lot of reading about the TPM that goes to this board and have called Asus and was told that as long as I have version 1809 of Windows, I should have no problems with BitLocker, yet supposedly, BitLocker, according to whom you read, BitLocker has/was hacked and the Firmware on the TPM, if not updated has a vulnerability if not updated. In regards to BitLocker, I don't believe this as I have also read that, because of the 256 Encryption, if BitLocker was hacked, that would mean that 256 Encryption has been compromised. Also, If you use BitLocker, Instead of BitLocker being used on SSD's, BitLocker defaults to the Encryption that the SSD's use themselves, using Samsung Magician. I also have read that in order to use the encryption that Samsung Magician provides, you must have a TPM on board. The only thing I want to do is clarify all of this stuff that I'm reading other than the possible vulnerability of the TPM, that I can find and update, should there be a problem with the TPM. So I guess the questions is 1. Is there a problem with BitLocker and 2. Does BitLocker default to the Encryption that the SSD uses, using Samsung Magician.
The internet is a great place to get information, but sometimes it gets confusing, you need clarification from those that use it. Thanks in advance.
