Do you think there is value to using these as an extra layer of security or is the threat landscape evolving so rapidly that hackers and the like will manage to bypass these security measures?
Hackers usually use malware to bypass security and in order to infect people, they send them links in emails/documents and those addons try to block those links as soon as they are found. They act as a second AV, so it is not a bad thing, not to mention, that sometimes webpage looks safe, but it is actually phishing webpage, most people do not check urls in detail. Like those two look pretty normal at the first look.

Thank you for the explanation TairikuOkami.

Is there a particular addon you can recommend?

Thanks for the suggestions. I may give Emsisoft extension a try. A reputable security company.

I have had the Chrome Defender extension working in the UK for some time. I currently have v1.65 working in the UK but I can't find the Defender extension on the Chrome Web Store via a standard search.

A Google search reveals the extension here at Microsoft https://browserprotection.microsoft.com/learn.html

Clicking on "Learn More" takes you to the Chrome Store here https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...eknacdieedcoml

People may be able to install the extension from that link.

Thanks Steve. Might be a glitch on Chrome Web Store.
