Which virus protector should i use,

    Hello.
I presently use Kaspersky total security and in about 35 days it will automatically renew, Now for some time I've wondered how safe I am with this product as it originated from Russia / Eastern Block areas. Now if it had come from anywhere else I'd be happy.
I've not had any issues from it for the 3 years I've had it but I do have that nagging doubt that one day my bank acc will be emptied and I'll be spied on etc .

Should I be worried and if so which other Checker would you recommend to replace it with.

    Regards

List of AVs based on the country of origin, you can choose AV based on the country you like the most.

Somewhat off-topic I know, but very interesting how many of those offerings use Bitdefender as a third-party engine.

And thanks for the useful link.

I also use only Windows Defender and ocassionally run a scan with Malwarebytes free. Never had a problem. Makes me wonder why any third party AV would be necessary.

    Barnaby,

About Kaspersky - There is a lot of suspicion but no proof of anything untoward.

    About Windows defender
    - see the comparative reviews in www.avtest.org
    - Windows defender improved enormously a year or two ago and is always in the top group these days.
    - I have never seen anything in the comparisons to make me decide to switch away from this built-in tool.
    - I did run some others on one computer for almost a year to see if there was anything to make me stay but none of them were sufficiently attractive.
    - If you click on the little > to the right of each line in the reviews you will see details of each assessment. Windows defender slows down installations more than most of the competition but since I only do those once in a blue moon I don't care.

Thanks one and all I'll take a look at how to remove Kaspersky and switch to Windows Defender.
Kaspersky looks a pain to remove particularly the auto renew membership.

This link is dated but might help you get on the way to the up-to-date version - How to remove Kaspersky Internet Security 2016

That was a setting on my account rather than within the application. If I remember correctly, you can click on an entry in the application to go straight to your account.

I used to get Kaspersky antivirus free from my bank but the offer has been terminated due to security concerns.

I now just use Defender augmented by offline scans using AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes and have had no problems.

I removed Kaspersky software using their removal tool https://support.kaspersky.com/1464 I also checked for any residual Kaspersky folders in the following folders and deleted them if present:

    C:\Program Files (x86)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files
    C:\ProgramData
    C:\Users\account_name\AppData\Local (check for all users)
    C:\Users\account_name\AppData\Roaming (check for all users)

Cheers Steve I have Adwcleaner and Malwarebytes running already as well as part of Windows Defender so I'll be set up like you when I turn off Kaspersky.
It is good to read frequent comments that your style of set up works well.

Ref getting rid of Kaspersky eventually I had to phone them today for them to cut the auto renew off and confirm in an email that my subscription will end when the paid for Licence ends.
I'm a still a little concerned though as right after the email from them confirming it had been cancelled I got another email saying it had just renewed and they would be taking a payment shortly? I rang them again and they have assured me that their system says they have ended it.
I'll keep an eye on my bank account to make certain.

Will I need to clear/clean anything out after it ends or even not wait for them to terminate it but do it now following the tips above on here.

    Thanks
      My Computer
