If you are not turning UAC off then malware is doing so.

1 Remove all removeable drives until you have finished.

2 Scan with Windows defender offline - WD, Virus & threat protection, Scan options, WD offline scan.

3 If that does not detect & fix it then scan with Malwarebytes.

4.1 If that does not fix it then try restoring a system image made before the problem started. If your file backups are old then you can update them but will have to disinfect the backup drives afterwards because connecting them allows them to be infected.

4.2 If restoring an image is not possible then reinstall Windows. The same comments about backups apply.

5 If that does not fix it then you have a rare form of malware known as BIOS malware, firmware malware which you will have to research yourself.
    - You could start with this forum and with How to Cleanse a Virus in BIOS Chron.com
    - You might end up deciding that repair costs more than a new computer but make sure you do not contaminate your new computer by connecting any contaminated external drives to the new one.

    Watermelon,

I am glad the problem is resolved.

Since Gerry seems to have a similar problem, please could you post what Malwarebytes told you about the identity of the malware concerned.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes and hence the problem, it switched off Microsofts Antivirus, now I cannot get the built in antivirus to restart, hope this helps. It was Malwarebytes that is the problem not Malware

    Thanks for your kind reply.

I do not know how uninstalling Malwarebytes would have any effect on your UAC setting [Change User Account Control (UAC) Settings - TenForumsTutorials]. I assume you used the procedure in uninstall Malwarebytes

You might be better off starting a new thread of your own so you can describe the sequence of events & the symptoms. You might call your question something like, UAC keeps turning off & Windows defender remains switched off after uninstalling Malwarebytes.

It does not keep turning off mate, Malwarebytes disables it so it wont start, after uninstalling Malwarebytes it just wont switch on it keeps saying "Your antivirus is provided by another application" so I am lost, I do remember it is something it switches off deeper into windows you need to be an admin to get to it, I do not have that knowledge, maybe someone with the knowledge will sort it for me. Brink did do an article on it, but I cant make head nor tail of it.

I cannot tell when you are referring to UAC and when you are referring to Windows defender. They are two completely different things.
