latest definition for defender stuck downloading 0

Anyone having issue with the latest defender definition, it is stuck downloading at 0 percent for about 20 mins now. I rebooted and tried again, it found the update but still sticks on downloading

Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Definition 1.285.432.0)

.423 and .426 both earlier today downloaded and installed fine. Not sure if it is a duff definition update or MS servers are at fault

Tried a manual check for updates on the defender app/portal but they just endlessly says checking for updates

There's a 1.285.440.0 out now. Three of my machines (all 1809, x64 Pro, x64 Home and x86 Home) are stuck at 0% on that one too.

However, an 1803 machine downloaded 1.285.440.0 without a problem.

Edit: The odd thing is, despite showing 0% downloaded, after a Restart two out of the three 1809 machines now say that 1.285.440.0 installed successfully. The third fails to download or install the definitions update, either in windows update or by checking in Defender itself.

Yeah after hoping problem would go away overnight woke this morning to get stuck on same issue. I can see it finds the newer definition 440.0 as you mention but remains 0 % on downloading. I have restarted couple of times and am not seeing succesful install in the update history for them like you are. Either way it's another MS mess!

    Cheers

I just left my 3rd machine running overnight, stuck on '0% downloaded'. It eventually succeeded in installing the definitions.

MS update servers certainly seem to be in a mess at the moment, see this other thread...

We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or y - Windows 10 Forums

Ok thanks. They need to get this mess sorted as there are numerous definition updates a day. I suppose if there was a new cumulative update in the mix it’s potentially fall to the same issue or get stuck behind the definition update. I tweeted MS Support but got the usual noncommittal response. Basically suggesting it’s not them but all our
    machines and ISPs to blame

They'll sort it out when the working day starts in Redmond, I guess. That's about 5pm UK time...

@Scottyboy99, it's been fixed sooner than I expected (and the 'can't connect' problem on that other thread).

I've just checked for updates. It found, downloaded and installed 1.285.463.0 without a problem.

Good morning. Not working here in Southwest Florida. Windows Update did an automatic check for updates 30 minutes ago and showed Defender definition 1.285.484.0 was available. WU stuck at 0% downloading. I restarted my computer and WU said it couldn't install the update. No entry found in Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor. Checking for updates from within Defender, it just keeps spinning doing nothing. Closed Defender and went to the MS page that has definitions. That showed 1.285.484.0 available so I put it in manually. What was installed was 1.285.486.0. WU now shows it's up to date but this latest definition does not show up under Definition Update history -- it only shows in Defender itself. MS may not have a fun day.

EDIT: Microsoft Servers Down? Service Status, Map, Problems History - Outage.Report -- at this edit writing, it appears a good chunk of the U.S. is having issues with MS servers. Seems sporadic elsewhere.
