Thanks for this. I even had to call the number of those scammers and they were telling me that if I go officially to Microsoft, it will cost between $300 - $400. I wondered how much I bought the PC. Then said if I want them to work on it, it will cost me $96. Thanks so very much.
Apologies since I seen the post the dude wrote back two pages ago. Sorry for any inconvenience!

    You Rock Mytere! I

Edge has not been hacked. This does the exact same thing in Chrome. It's a really nasty page that someone prevents you from closing it.

The easiest way to get around this is to disable your internet (pull the cable, disable the adapter, whatever). Then kill the browser and restart it, then close the tab.

I did as you suggested and it WORKED! I disconnected from my wifi unplugged my modem I waited about 30 seconds plugged in modem and connected to my wifi.
Thank you thank you, thank you Msytere.

I disabled the adapter and the stupid thing was still there, except there was no verbal warning, just some dialogue box that I ran task mgr and killed. But I am running msert now, and will install mbam after it finishes and run it. Edge is a real joke. No security!

Went back and looked at the message that had a "Do not allow this page to generate any more messages" check box. I checked it, and THEN I was able to close the tab. Sorry about the mix up. I didn't read the message. I just went task manager and closed that crap. I'm just trying to get over an infection from .locky, and can't stand another one.

Virus popup warning in MS Edge with looping pages to call a phone#

I have some malware that has hacked my Edge browser. It says my computer has been attacked by a virus and there is a verbal computer based warning about this attack. There is no way I can close it other than going to task manager. When I restart Edge it starts up on the same page. Is there some way of starting Edge without it going to this site? It seems my start page has been hacked. I have been using it and getting used to it but now have reverted back to Firefox until I get this fixed.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
This type of malware is still active and I got it again last night. Because there are multiple popups it is almost impossible to close the windows before another pops up, although I did manage after several attempts. While you can launch task manager and delete MS Edge, it may leave a blank window impossible to remove. I run MS Sysinternals Process Explorer in place of Task manager as it is more powerful and I simple find the MS Edge listing and kill the process tree. However, if you relaunch Edge, it comes back because it is stuck in the cache and regenerating. Even logging off and on did not help. However, shutting down and rebooting solved it. and Edge launched OK again without problems.

For the uninitiated it looks like dire consequences will happen if you don't call MS and a number is giver (mine was 267-627-6391) which is phony and a scam to alleviate the untutored of their money. and during this a loud klaxon erupts from your speaker worse than my own emergency sounds. To be ultra safe I ran CCleaner to clean my caches and check registry. Then I ran a deeper scan with FIX-IT to further check files and registry and rebooted again.

If you are unfamiliar with Sysinternals I suggest you Google it as it is an excellent collection of tools for the advanced used. For the less advanced, just Process Explorer along is worth it to run in the background so you can go to it if you have program issues or crashed programs and just kill the process tree.

SERIOUSLY? This thing is nothing but an annoyance. If you have any kind of active protection and get rid of it properly then you don't get any trojans or anything else that needs to be cleaned on your system. It is annoying because you have to use your task manager and go to Background processes. You will see multiple processes for Edge. If you keep closing them fast enough then it will kill the processes without letting them restart. Your Edge browser gets closed when you kill the last one and your problem is solved. There is no home page hack, there is nothing nefarious put on your machine and there is no need to do anything else other than stop it. You are ending the processes that it uses to do anything before it can do anything. It really is that simple. Sometimes I have to close each process three times but I get it fast enough and shuts down the page hack and lets you restart your browser as if it had never been there.

Yeah I get this crap on my PC's and since I use comodo sand box(Now called Containment)I use task manager to shut it down then run my Advanced Unistaller Pro to clean out Firefox browser and I'm good to go again.

It is really good to know this is not a threat of any kind to my PC but just an annoyance that we have to put up with.

I get this from going to websites that I use to watch my online movies and TV shows on and then every once in awhile it will show its ugly head and then I chop it off!

    First off, I haven't read this entire thread so sorry if I repeat some things already said;
For me, this has just started happening in the last few days. I have found:
    1) it only happens when I leave a tab open to the "new tab home page" of Edge, there is no address in the address bar, it is a search page with my customized news feed happening on it, the virus will always come in on that page. I normally don't have that page open, I have it set to certain pages I like my browser to open with (emails, YouTube, and so forth) But if I open a page to research something (usually for social media) and I leave that tab open to the home page, this is where the virus has always attacked my browser on that page. I've thought it might be entering through an advertisement or something like that. It is a pop-up.
    2) The easiest way to get rid of it I have found is Ctrl-Alt-Del, choose "task manager", select "Microsoft Edge" and hit the "end task" button in the bottom right corner, this will close the browser.
    Hope this helps
