Bitdefender Threw Up A Ridiculous Infected File Warning

At least I think it was ridiculous. I was on Windows Central and wanted to create a double click system restore point using a shortcut (scroll down) on the page:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-c...e-double-click

and Bitdefender came at me and said:

The file C:\Users\e480ceo\Desktop\Create Restore Point.lnk is infected with Gen:Heur.BZC.YAX.Cross.6.0AD362E0 and was moved to quarantine. It is recommended that you run a System Scan to make sure your system is clean

Bitdefender support answered my question with a ready made answer akin to "reinstall windows" though not as drastic.

I believe the warning was a false positive. What do you all think? TIA.

It is called a False Positive. Some AV are worse about puking when you create a link to some type of system operation, that the AV is programed to believe that malware created it.

That's what I thought as well. Thanks.

I suppose for some peace of mind you could either upload the file to VirusTotal or run an online scan such as Eset just to be sure.

    https://www.virustotal.com/#/home/upload

    Online Malware Detection ESET

More than likely it is a False Positive but better to be safe than sorry as they say

After following the instructions to make the short cut Bitdefender immediately intervened and quarantined the offender. I had the opportunity I believe at the time to restore the shortcut but on the oft chance something else was going on I just deleted it so no opportunity to upload. No matter really it is not that much of a burden to make restore points the old fashioned way : )
