    Hi folks

what on earth are you defending against

very few people want to INFECT a computer these days --it's C21 now not C19/C20 -- they want to MAKE MONEY by scamming, identity theft etc etc --all this is done by ways that have absolutely zero to do with root webkits or any of the other geeky stuff mentioned here.

I'll bet that 99% of typical users who don't use places like the P---te Bay" etc will never experience a Virus in a million years if they just have the basic WD working properly (note we are talking about W10 here -- for earlier OS'es other considerations of course apply) -- however being victim of some sort of Internet Fraud, online Banking scam or other type of Identity theft - usually occurs because of people giving out too much info on Social media sites, replying to strange emails, getting hoaxed by fake "look alike" web sites and so is far more likely. No Software can protect you against those sorts of scams.

C'mon peeps --this is C21 now - most of the discussions on this thread seem to be addressing problems with earlier OS'es or worrying about really weird scenarios that are almost totally never likely to happen on todays computers with W10 installed.

Most of the A/V industry still seems to be so last century. (I mention again though this is for HOME computers -- corporates / cloud servers etc have other issues and do present "tastier targets" than small home "Mom and Pop" computers).

I'd like people on this section of the Forum to post if they've ever had a virus on W10 and if so what exactly were they doing (you don't have to give details of web sites logged on to of course). So my feeling is that most of this stuff now is just Snake Oil provided WD is working on your system.

    Cheers
    jimbo

Never had a virus on Windows 10 that i recall, possibly a few false positives over the years i think, but don't think ever had a real virus when i was trying out Defender on times i left Avast Free uninstalled after clean installs.

Some reason always end up reinstalling Avast Free, when probably i don't even need to actually.
