    Problem With Kaspersky alerts

    Hi all.

Im not sure if this would be the right place for this question regarding Kaspersky Total Security.

For some reason when using chrome browser I keep getting an alert saying that Kaspersky has blocked a download from so and so web address ( please refer to the attached screen shot ), even though I am not even downloading or attempting to. Or even going onto that web page or what ever it is.

    Problem With Kaspersky alerts-virus-blocked.png

As you can see, the amount of alerts is crazy!

When I say I keep getting, I mean I KEEP getting it while using chrome. I have to close Chrome, open the alert, and leave it, only sometimes it will stop.

Ive tried un-installing then re installing chrome by using IOBit Uninstaller, resetting the laptop, and then redownloading/installing chrome.

    But then It happens again.

Please, please can some one save me and maybe know a cure lol... I cant recall making any changes to Chrome. And I don't want to just disable any alerts for Kaspersky just in case I miss something important.

    Thanks.

If you haven't sorted this out yet, could you answer a few questions regarding this issue? Do you see these alerts only when you visit tenforums.com or for other websites as well? Do you use a browser other than Chrome on your laptop? Does Kaspersky TS display the same alerts for the tenforums.com website on other browsers too? If you don't see alerts when using the other browser, have you installed any browser extensions/plug-ins on the other browser that you haven't on Chrome?

When you visit a website, along with the web pages served to your browser, certain files such as JavaScript (.js) files, Cascading Style Sheets (.css), various types of images (.jpeg, .gif,...), etc. are automatically downloaded to your disk in the background and are cached by the browser. These files are required by web pages for the purposes of styling, providing client-side functionality, illustration, etc.

JavaScript (.js) files can be abused by bad actors to perform malicious actions such as exploiting any security holes in your browser, downloading malware to your computer, browser hijacking/redirection, displaying unwarranted ads, etc. Sometimes such malicious JavaScript files may be hosted on reputable websites that are unaware of its existence due to being hacked themselves or due to malvertising served by ad networks associated with the website.

Going by the screenshot, Kaspersky TS is blocking a JavaScript (.js) file that was being downloaded when you visited this website (tenforums.com.) KTS' heuristic algorithm is flagging the .js file as an adware (not a virus.) It could be a false positive. You could request TenForums' admin @z3r010 to investigate this.

This is not a Chrome problem.

Based on what @z3r010 has to advise on this, you could choose to add an exclusion rule for the .js file in question via Kaspersky Total Security's "Threats and Exclusions settings."

Meanwhile, you could answer the questions I've posed above to look for other possible solutions.

    Hi PrivacyFreak.

Thank you for taking your time in replying.

    To answer your questions...

Do you see these alerts only when you visit tenforums.com or for other websites as well?
pops up as soon as I go to any website via Chrome. The forum was just in the background via Edge when I took the screen shot. So as far as I know it happens as soon go to a sitein chrome (my home page is just the default page in Chrome).

Do you use a browser other than Chrome on your laptop?
Only Chrome. At the moment im using Microsoft Edge.

Does Kaspersky TS display the same alerts for the tenforums.com website on other browsers too?
Nope. As im replying to you via Edge, nothing has popped up.

If you don't see alerts when using the other browser, have you installed any browser extensions/plug-ins on the other browser that you haven't on Chrome?

Nope none. I didn't even know you can/could in Edge. I don't even remember installing/adding any extensions in Chrome.

As stated above, it just pops up as soon as I visit a website via chrome. SO I really don't think its to do with Tenforums.

you could choose to add an exclusion rule for the .js file in question via Kaspersky Total Security's "Threats and Exclusions settings."...

Im sorry but im not sure what you mean by this. I find the settings that you mentioned, here is a screen shot:

And if this is of any help, here is a screen shot of what it shows when I export the log from the Kaspersky notifications:

Again thank you for taking the time to try and help me out. I aint as clued up as you lol.

Hope this has helped in some way.

    Jamie.

Sorry, my bad. I thought the forum open in the background was intentional.

We'll save this one for later.

You could try a couple of things to begin with...

Download Malwarebytes AdwCleaner from the link below and scan your system for adware.
    https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If nothing found by AdwCleaner, try the "Clean up computer" option in Advanced Settings of Chrome. If Kaspersky TS continues to display those alerts, try the "Reset Settings" option next. Instructions can be found at the link below.

Let us know how it went.

    Hi Jamie,

I'm off for now. If the previous post's suggestions have not helped, you can consider tweaking the Web Anti-Virus settings and set "Action on threat detection" to "Select action automatically" if not already set so.

That might stop the barrage of alerts while keeping you safe.

I'm not a Kaspersky TS user. You can find detailed instructions at the link below

    Hope that helps.

That's not something coming from here, you must have an infection or something in your browser causing it.

    Hi there.

It was already set to Automatically.
How ever I did notice that when left clicking on my Notifications and then Right clicking on the annoying alert, it gives me the choice to " Disable this notification".

    Problem With Kaspersky alerts-right-click.png

Will this just silence the annoying alert that goes crazy with out actually disabling Kaspersky its self?

I hope so. Time will tell haha.

Again sorry for all the questions, and thank you for taking the time in trying to help me.

    Jamie.
