Updating Defender when Windows Update is disabled

My Windows Update is disabled(I update when I see that updates don't break anything). I had Avast so no problem with updating this antivirus. Is there any way to make Defender update even if Windows Update is disabled? Of course, automatically, manually updating an antivirus is not a good idea...

Since auto updating Defender definitions depends on a running Windows Update service, which you have disabled, there is no way to use the auto update feature of something that is disabled. Manually check under Security Center:

Don't know why you say that is not a good idea. Try it.

"Check for updates" is not working when Windows Update is disabled. I had to set it to "automatic" and then "metered connection". After that, manually updating Windows defender is working.
Manually updating Defender is bad because I can forgive to do that. I also don't know how often MS releases new updates.
