    Security Center error "DC040780"

    Hi, I keep getting this error in the Event viewer:
    "Security Center failed to validate caller with error DC040780."

    To be more precise, I found this in the Windows Logs, Application section.

    I'm gonna send the description from the Log along, together with the XML view:
    - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
    - <System>
    <Provider Name="SecurityCenter" />
    <EventID Qualifiers="49152">17</EventID>
    <Level>2</Level>
    <Task>0</Task>
    <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>
    <TimeCreated SystemTime="2019-01-02T00:36:12.296888400Z" />
    <EventRecordID>20616</EventRecordID>
    <Channel>Application</Channel>
    <Computer>HP_Pavilion</Computer>
    <Security />
    </System>
    - <EventData>
    <Binary>DC040780</Binary>
    </EventData>
    </Event>

    Binary data:

    In Words
    0000: 800704DC

    In Bytes
    0000: DC 04 07 80 Ü..€

    More than 700 DC040780 Error entries in the Event log since the first day of the new year.

    How can we solve this?
    Thanks in advance for taking your time to help me!

    Thanks for stepping up eLPuSHeR, but I already ran sfc & dism /restore health, and both turned out fine.

    How about an in-place upgrade? Then non destructive one.

    Haven't tried that yet.
    Actually I've never done this before so I'll study the subject and then decide if I want to go thru with it.
    Gonna keep you posted, good or bad...

    Are you using another antivirus other than Windows Defender?

    Yes I use Avira Antivirus Pro, but since I'm in the process of doing a upgrade install I had to uninstall my AV and now I'm using Windows Defender for the time being.

    I do understand your question because when I searched the net for similar problems people said they had issues with their AV not being recognized by Security Center. I since then un- & reinstalled my AV, with same result tho.

    Ok, I'm almost ready to go thru with the upgrade install.
    If you don't hear anything in the next couple of days something went horribly wrong...

    Unfortunately, I was not able to find any definitive answers to the problem.

    Good luck and it goes without saying backup all your important files and folders before the upgrade.

    Ok the upgrade install is completed, but already there' an error in the Event log --> Application.
    A fresh install and I found two error entries, yet they pertain to the same issue, namely Windows Search.
    To avoid a thread with multiple subjects and errors please do not respond to Windows Search problems.
    I'll try to fix it first, and I can always create a new- or add to existing thread covering such issues...

    So far no Security Center errors in the Event log...

    I can report a form of progress as I determined, to a certain degree where Security Center error DC040780 comes from. Couple of days ago I uninstalled my Anitvirus program, did a upgrade install, and used Defender instead. Moments ago I re-installed my AV program and error DC040780 doomed up again in the Event log.
