    windows defender

Yesterday i got a msg "tile database is corrupt." I went looking on google for a solution and everything they suggested was not available with this version of win 10 so I decided to run windows defender to c if there was a virus. I started it Thanksgiving day @ 12:15 PM and it finished @ 12:10 AM after it scanned 3,639,256 files. Is that possible to have that many files on a laptop? How do I get rid of some of them? Oh, win defender found nothing.

Sure, it's quite possible to have millions of files on a laptop, particularly if you do a lot of web surfing (there are LOTS of files involved in that, many of which wind up on your PC). I'm running a full scan on my Lenovo T520 laptop now, and will edit this post later with a snapshot of the count and findings when it completes.
If you use Disk Cleanup or the "Free up space now" option in Settings → System → Storage, you'll undoubtedly clean up lots of files. I also recommend Josh Cell's excellent (and free) UnCleaner utility available for download from MajorGeeks.

Looks like my laptop isn't a good subject. Running a Norton scan on my production desktop now. Will post those results when ready. I'm guess many multiples of millions of files there. More later.

My C: drive alone has ~1.5M entries

Total system total will still be some while coming, I'm guessing 3x or 4x this current total. It got up to 1.85M entries and then my system froze so I had to reboot. When I ran the complete scan again it started from where it left off, and added another 1.9M entries. Thus, my production PC has around 3.75M files under its control. Less than my original estimate, but in line with your laptop!

The following screencap has very few entries in the filesystem. It's from the Lenovo T520 which is why I decided to provide results from my production PC as well (it has about 12 TB of storage attached across 12 drives).

Thank you for the reply, I didn't know about the storage clean up in settings.12 drives, 12 TB storage sounds like you have a very impressive system.
