    Defender found Theats Question

    Hello All

Went into Panic mode last night, after seeing Found Threats in Defender change from 0 Found Threats to -7438

    Checked with MRT.exe
    Malwarebytes Free
    ADW Cleaner

Nothing found by any other program, System running perfectly fine--(Just Started using Defender full time after clean install of 1809 on October 3rd)

Could be a definition of what a threat is.

Norton considers tracking cookies as threats, not sure I would categorize as threat or nuisance.

    Was defender able to clear?

Problem is i looked in Quarantine, Allowed Threats--and it showed Nothing there, even checked event viewer--Nothing, then ran MRT, Malwarebytes, ADW Cleaner, before finally saying forget this and reinstalled Avast Free, Ran boot scan with that--nothing found. False positive? error with it, i have no idea

I don't think tracking cookies get quarantined.

I run Norton with Defender, Norton with SAS, Defender alone and just removed Bitdefender to test something.

All have been very good but I wouldn't be a good test case, nor would other informed users.

I don't click on attachments, I don't follow unknown links, I don't go to sites that pirate stuff and I think three times before I click on a link in a google search.

Glad you found a solution that works.

WD has the highest false positive rate in the known Universe!

It's something you are going to have to live with - they went from one extreme to the next.

BTW See how poorly it's coded (definitions aside)

The devil is in the detail....(Why have AV listed under firewall and wrongly at that?... makes no sense)

WD has a better than average false positive rate according to AV-test.org - see the latest test results [under the heading Usability].

Yeah, well might just stick with Avast Free lol, i went into panic mode when saw -7438 Threats found on that screen

Wonder if my settings was reason for that issue, as I used Andy Ful's Configure Defender x64 little applet and did the following settings

    Pup protection on

    Cloud protection High

time for scan of that 50s

    ASR protection rules added
    email and web client one

and java script and vbs setting was another

did same on laptop machine that is still on Defender for now til I load it up and swap that one to Avast Free as well lol, might be as soon as tomorrow lol. If I decide to keep using Defender on Laptop and Maybe Switch Desktop back possibly, what is the proper advanced protection settings
