    Missing notifications about defender updates

    Windows 10-pro 1803
My settings are to Notify about updates,
using the tutorial Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials
I also have it set for defer feature jobs to Semi-Annual (business) and just days (4-5) for security patches.

Daily, like clockwork, I used to have the notification that Defender needs an update. Just for signatures.
A pest, but I like it this way.
For some reason the notification happens no more, since Oct.14, the day KB4462919 came in and I was notified about it. That's the last notification I've seen (other than the firewall is off).

So i have to go to Reliability and see if defender sigs updated. It did, silently (except no update yesterday).
And today the WD platform changed. Also silently, behind my back.
Any idea why no more notification?

So long as it's defender, it's not that important. But I dread the possibility of a silent feature update.

    Thank you, dalchina.
I was sure I messed something up, but couldn't figure out what.
At least it now seems it's a new feature or a new bug.

I think I made an error in my post blaming possible reason on the KB4462929 update. Wrong. It happened a day or two before.

Still not getting Defender notifications. Is this issue still on or is it my system that’s having issues?

Been ok for quite a while. Bear in mind there's a notifications issue in 1809.

I don't think so...Been running on v1803 for some time now and this all started about first week of October or so. I even reinstalled Windows due to an upgrade from HDD to SSD drive and still, no update notifications. And Group Policy is set to Notify for Download as well. So I think this also affects 1803 as well.

The notifications issue is about Action Centre notifications not occurring if background app updates are disabled, if I recall. But that (I think) is 1809 specific.

If you like, you can try this free tool to see if there are Defender updates:

If there is one, do you also see it if you do a manual Windows Update scan in Settings?

I can actually see the updates but no notifications appear telling me that it’s ready for download.

I don’t get this now unless I check for updates manually

    Like win10freak, in gpedit I've set (2)-Notify for Download. I'm on 1803.
In the Notification settings, "Get notifications from these senders" - Security and Maintenance is set to notify.

I don't do "Check for update", but I've been watching pending updates in Update & Security > Windows Update and what I see is "Updates available", "Last checked:..." yesterday or today. But nothing in the Reliability history. Then, late in the day, Reliability shows that Defender updated. Silently. No Notification at all.

Here's a perfect example from today, now, at 8:50pm - last checked yesterday 11pm, pending download 1.279.995.0.
Reliability - no Defender. It'll come sometime this evening I'm sure.

Oh, I know I can click to allow download right now. But that's not the point. The point is, Windows is supposed to notify me that there is a pending update. Instead of me having to hunt for it.

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
in it is AUOptions, DWORD, value 2 - just like in gpedit.
I checked it, in case windows no longer looks at gpedit, but in the registry. But both are set to notify.
