Seeking advice on SSD partition encryption, or container encryption

A laptop with a 512GB SSD, partitioned into (about) C: 125GB (for Windows) and D: 375GB
Windows 10 x64 Pro.
Data files, such as those of Office 365, will be stored on the D-partition.

I would like to have that partition encrypted/password protected.
After booting Windows and just -prior- to launching an application that uses D: for storage,I would first 'unlock' that partition.
Alternatively, I might create an encrypted container, using a tool like VeraCrypt or BestCrypt
(this instead of encrypting a non system partition).

Seeking advice on what best to do.Encrypt partition or use a container encryption?
(On my desktop I use a container encryption)
Are there any pros / cons and matters that require special attention specifically in regards to a laptop+SSD?

If you need encryption to prevent data access (e.g. for a stolen laptop) the simple solution is to have only one partition and use full system encryption with bitlocker (only available in pro and above).

Otherwise try to explain what you want to achieve.

That is indeed the idea: prevent data access.
Before launching any application - the partition or encrypted container will be unlocked.

However, the thing is that I am a bit unsure about encryption in case of SSD-use.
Will that work? I know encryption works fine together with a conventional HDD...
(note: I use container encryption, but the container is stored on a conventional HDD)

SSD and encryption : don't know if they go well together.
(either container or partition)

There is nothing wrong with ssd and encryption, you can use it.
