    Phis sing, Scam or Genuine?

Am receiving reminders that my Hotmail account requires attention. I follow procedure until I have a box that requires last 4 of credit card etc. I filled in with fictitious numbers and was informed to wait for MS action within 7(?) days.

Surely Microsoft do not require details of purchase and credit (last4) details.

How can I contact Microsoft to report this please? Also how can I perhaps delete all my MS accounts and open a new one?

    Advice appreciated.

    Hi there
anything that requires unsolicited things like credit card details are usually scams or phishing - in any case isn't Hotmail a FREE service so why would it want credit card details.

The only times credit card info is required is if you are buying on the net from proper genuine providers or you might get reminders that a credit card bill is due even then you can check with the provider if you are in any doubt.

To delete an ms account unlink from email address.

you can get new accounts but changing an email account might not be active for a few days.

    cheers

Did you click on any link within the email? Can you share it?

I hadn't used my Hotmail account in awhile and had to do the restore/verification of it, was given 4 choices of how and one was by an alternate E-Mail, one by last 4 digits of either house phone or cellphone to receive a code to enter, no big problem and only took a few minutes.

Thank you all for very prompt replies. @TairikuOkami Received just now from MS:-

Update on your me@.Hotmail.com account recovery request.

We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account hotmail.com. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your ownership of this account using the information you provided. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of our customers very seriously, and our commitment to protecting your personal information requires that we take the utmost care in ensuring that you are the account owner.

Please submit a new account verification form
At this point, your best option is to submit a new form with as much accurate information as you can gather. The more information you can include in the form, the better the chance you’ll have of regaining access to your account. We’ve included a few tips below to help you fill out the form as completely and accurately as possible.

    > Submit a new form
Helpful tips for filling out another form:

    • Answer as many questions as you can.
    • Use the information you provided when you created the account, or last updated it.
    • Submit the form from a computer you frequently use.
    • You will be asked to list recently used email addresses and the subject lines from recent emails. Ask for help from family members, friends, or business contacts to confirm their email addresses and tell you the subject lines of the last three emails you sent them.
    • Make sure to use the correct domain for your account, such as hotmail.com, live.com, or outlook.com. Keep in mind that your email address may be country specific. For example, if you created your account in Sweden, your domain would be “hotmail.co.se” rather than “hotmail.com”.

I think it wiser to close all my MS accounts: long.live.com, hotmail.com, skype.com and me&wife@

Am worried about this. Don't really need problems - self inflicted or otherwise at my age

The links are legit, but it seems, that someone is trying to gain access to your account using recovery.

You can enable 2 factor authentication to secure it further: Sign in to your Microsoft account

By the way, please edit your previous post and remove the content, you have some emails there visible.

MSAccounts ask, during verification procedures, for the last four digits of the contact telephone number that you registered on that MSAccount.

Are you sure that you were asked about the last four digits of your credit card number?
