Just replace with something new, like:
HitmanPro.Alert - SurfRight
Malwarebytes | Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit - Free Zero-Day Exploit Protection
or just simple EMET, been around for ages. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2458544
Dr. Web FixIt! and ADWCleaner are some good on-demand scanners. But seriously, running something that hasn't been updated for years from Symantec is pretty much saying that you want your computer to be infected.
wow there was no need for foul language at all that was like not right we are all here just trying to warn you of the dangers and to help you find a alternative.
Don't forget about software vulnerabilities. Who knows if criminals have found a way to bypass ThreatFire? If you're running just ThreatFire for virus protection, that probably would not be the best idea even if it is still supported. Behavioral blocking is built into antiviruses nowadays, anyway, usually under "heuristic protection" or something like that.
Well, you'll never get to read this, but I do fully understand your anger on here. It's become far too normal all over the Internet for those interested in finding things out for their own reasons, are given ultimatums on what they 'must' do to stay up to date. And it's so so frustrating to people searching.
It's obvious by the messages first left by sutex that this person knew all they needed to know about risk and purpose. So for that person to be told in various ways that basically, "keep up to date, don't be thick, don't have your own purposes etc." - well who wouldn't get angry at such replies ?
There are 2 very different types of Internet users:
Those who browse with no purpose, and often feel an odd 'need' to give advice & opinions on things you can guarantee they've never used, never will use, and don't have reason to use or understand.
And there are those who (like myself) use computers in a totally different world, where the imaginary notion of horrible dangerous viruses are always around, where everybody is at 115% risk of death by hacking should they not be completely up to date with all of the very latest virus protection and 1024bit firewall security, complete with cream, choccy sprinkles, and a cherry on top.
Well you get what I mean lol. I mean it only as a joke, but a real productive answer wouldn't have told somebody to just stop trying to think for themselves, but instead, to mention that it would be unsafe to completely rely on such older software, as good as it was. And then go on to suggest what may be the problem and possible resolution, all done in the interest of learning.
The most likely thing with threatfire misbehaving, is that it's going on a 64 bit system, that's also most likely been upgraded without a clean installation - something I never use or trust. Always do a completely clean installation, and avoid extra complications like moving on from NTFS to whatever has been invented this year. Keep it simple and less things can go wrong.
Right, where's me beer gone? Peace to all :)
No, the most likely reason is that it makes system calls that have been deprecated and removed in Windows 10, most likely for security flaws. What the OP angrily refused to accept, no matter who tried to explain it, was that such software can never be made to work in a modern OS.
Hi folks
I don't think it's whether or not a problem of using old software but using rediculous and foul language that is totally uncalled for.
Intelligent debate should be encouraged -- there's no need for people to get abusive --I'm sure we've all at one time or another disagreed with people -- for my part I think ALL 3rd party A.V FREE software for home use is essentially well passed it's sell by date as I find using WD on W10 works just fine -- and if I ever do get infected I'd just restore the system from a clean backup (only takes about 12 mins on my system so quicket than any A/V cleanser and 100% more reliable too).
However other can disagree with me on this but we don't come to blows or use abusive foul language (also not even spelt properly).
Fortunately the vast numbers of people on these Forums seem intelligent and reasonable enough to have sensible discusstions without coming to blows.
Cheers
