    Help - Firewall not Operating

I just got a warning my firewall is turned off but when I try to set the defaults I get the message below.
    Attachment 199458
I checked the Group Policy setting for Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security and had the error below - but there is no restart in progress.
    Attachment 199485
Whats the best step now - a repair install or recover from backup?

Hi Steve. You likely found this article as well.

Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings

There is also a trouble shooter under Update and Security called Incoming connections. I would also check that none of you updates from yesterday failed.

No joy with the above or the troubleshooters. sfc /scannow runs OK as does Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth. A repair install failed so I'll try to recover from the last backup.

I'm also getting thousands of the following errors:

    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Date: 15/08/2018 19:17:46
    Event ID: 7024
    Task Category: None
    Level: Error
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: Laptop
    Description:
The Windows Defender Firewall service terminated with the following service-specific error:
    The data is invalid.

No none of the above work. I can't even open the Windows Security Centre. Hopefully my Reflect backup will rescue the situation.

I'm sure it will. Good luck.

Maybe some of the night time members (on this side of the water) will know a better fix.

I'm sure Macrium will come to the rescue. By chance have you tried to use a System Restore Point?

I forgot to try restore! I just recovered from my last Reflect backup. The original problem is a mystery. I did install the Android emulator Nox, decided I didn't want to use it then uninstalled using Revo uninstall. The problems happened after that uninstall for some reason.

Just curious, have you done a full system malware scan to rule out the possibility that something malicious might be preventing it from being turned back on?

A full scan with Malwarebytes & Defender showed nothing.
