    Free Burning Studio virus

Zone Alarm who I've been with for years and not let me down once, keeps having to quarantine a virus called "Free Burning Studio". I've tried to remove it with Malwarebytes but still no luck....

Anyone else had this problem and were they able to remove it ?

Just wondering- are you sure it's a virus, or a program:
Free Burning Studio – CD/DVD/ISO Burning & Backup

If you can identify a file being reported, try uploading it to Virustotal.

No it's a virus of some sort and from the attachment and link below something's happening that shouldn't. Also it keeps reappearing and having to be quarantined....???

What is Ashampoo burning studio.exe and How to Fix It? Virus or Safe?

Hi, that URL's a rubbish nonsense site meant to scare you.

    Repeat my recommendation:
If you can identify the file being reported, try uploading it to Virustotal.
    VirusTotal

    - that gives the verdict of many AV engines.

I've installed many Ashampoo progs over the years, if that's what it is- no problems.

The description you quote refers to it as ad-ware and not a virus.

Great thanks I thought it was way over the top too though I've not come across one before, particularly as I do a Malwarebytes scan every 24 hours which is why it was puzzling.

How do you identify the file as the only info I've got is the ZAlarm results....?

First off I suggest you determine whether it's Ashampoo Burning Studio or TechWizard Soft Burning Studio (from disc-maker.net) or another company altogether.

It looks like the 'updates' which are triggering ZoneAlarm) are occurring every hour. (In practice, is it ad-supported freeware and these are new adverts? Try increasing the size of ZoneAlarms 'Status' column to see if it shows 'Update Install Component', i.e. perhaps a DLL or data file containing adverts. Also, select one of the 'Update' rows then click on the 'More Info' button to see if gives you a filepath to the update.)

Try checking 'Scheduled Tasks' or see if there's a way of turning off (or reducing the frequency of) automatic updates from within the 'Burning Studio' program itself.

(Of course, if it IS ad-supported then you've no doubt agreed within the EULA to accept the ads as a condition of using the program for free. )

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks but unfortunately I'm a complete non-techie !

Thing is not knowing where the file is I haven't been able to get into it, however I did widen all the columns and finally found what I'd originally been looking for....

Forgot to add I don't have anything called "burning studio"

So presumably that program won't run now, which means you may as well uninstall it ...

    Go here in file explorer.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Free Burning Studio
Is there a list of files? Does a folder exist?

I don't have anything on file
    - doesn't tell me where you looked.

Download and install a program called everything by voidtools. (free). People here often recommend this - I use a similar but better one (I think).

It will build an index - let it run- a few minutes.
Then launch it and search for files/folders with that name.

    Have a look here:

    Free Burning Studio virus-1.jpg
    - scroll down or search to see if you have an uninstall entry.

If nothing found, perhaps what zonealarm deleted was a leftover.
