My guess is it did come from Microsoft, All the links belong to Microsoft.

As some one else suggested it looks like someone tried to take over your account and failed.

    EDIT:

If you want to check where the failed logons were tried check this page

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...-activity-page
Could not use suggested url as I had to log in. Password not recognised which is the problem.
Went through MS help etc and ended up with exactly the same email!!!

Probably I should forget Microsoft accounts and open a gmail a/c.

    Thanks to you and everyone.

    regards

Thanks ess1. I had never heard of the recent activities page. I don't have time to go through it now but I will.

Page will give you a recent history of your account. But, like others have pointed out, you need to know your MS password.

Yes indeed. Unfortunately my password is no longer accepted, hence this problem.

    Thanks for your continued efforts.

Do you have another administrator user account in addition to your Microsoft Account on your computer so that you can log-in to your computer??
    If so check out
When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...t-sign-in-cant
    might be helpful.
--- If not, maybe it's possible to see if you can use their password recovery process on another computer and they'll send you a temporary password and/or a security code that will help you get back on your computer on your alternate email account: they will also send you the security code to your cell phone once they know it's you.
--- Make sure to record every bit of information for your Microsoft account especially the security code along with everything else.
    Good luck

On "Probably I should forget Microsoft accounts and open a gmail a/c."
Password issues on gmail accounts can be daunting also: so I don't know if it's a plus.
