    Defender update frequency normal?

I noticed that starting 1st Aug. every day a restore point is created (Windows Modules Installer). Looking to which updates I received, I noticed that, starting 15 July, Defender Definition Updates were successfully installed every day and often 3 updates/day (possibly with every PC start).
This behaviour is different from the past (both frequency as creating a restore point). Did something change in MS policy?

Piko Your post interested me, so I checked my System Restore points. I too have a "Windows Modules Installer" created every day starting Aug. 1st. Win 10 Pro 1803. Now i find myself asking the same question. "Did something change in MS policy?

I just checked my Group Policy Editor nothing has changed it is "not configured" default setting. "Enabled will create daily restore point. Now I'm baffled.

GPE > Comp Config > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender Antivirus > Scan. On the right side double click on create a restore point. "Not configured is the default"

Windows 10 Home 1803 -- same thing here. One system restore point every day since August 1st. I find Defender will check for updates (and install if one's there) every PC start and/or restart, usually through the program. It only seems to go through Windows Update once per day. Something changed.

What happens if you actually click disable?

Hello cereberus. Pardon my stupidity but my brain isn't working at full steam today. Which "disable" is being referenced?

Damnit! My 1803.191 is doing the same thing. Talk about a BUG.

Okay. Brain fog is gone. A system restore point was already made this morning. I just disabled system restore and will have to see what happens tomorrow. If 1803 (191) doesn't do something unusual, there should be no additional restore points from Windows Modules Installer (or anything else). I don't really mind restore points but this activity has never happened before.

Restore points consume disk space. A daily Restore point for Defender definition updates is overkill.

I found that by temporarily disabling System Protection it deletes the "Windows Modules Installer" restore points. I have just deleted the daily (8) "Windows Modules Installer" restore points from Aug.01- Aug.8. Don't forget to re enable System Protection. Unfortunately this is only a work around, not a fix. It doesn't surprise me, but, MS have been silent on this recent System Protection changes.
