There's more to this than just some accidental error in a line of code somewhere. MS has done this for some purpose, so it's unlikely they're going to "fix" it. I'm just glad someone figured out how to turn it off, at least for the time being. We'll see ...
Clayton I certainly have to agree with you. MS are performing "Windows Modules Installer" verification... on a daily basis for reasons unknown to the average users. I don't understand users why users want to disable Defender AV features. If System Restore is hogging your HD you can reconfigure the dedicated disk space reserved for Restore.
Well for myself I almost switched back to Avast Free on all systems due to this, as one with SSD Drives in Main Desktop/Laptop can't have too many extra writes to the drives, so debating if I should stick to Defender or not at this point. Right now have so far, but check my ssd usage or life span daily with the Western Digital SSD Dashboard.
Maybe with Modern SSD drives I have nothing to worry on, but still do somewhat lol. So far still using Defender, if I can keep it like that--and I don't go with temptation to resume using Avast Free might finally be doing good lol
But do have Avast Free setup file downloaded just in case

Windows Defender Antivirus antimalware platform - KB4052623 (Version 4.18.1809.2) installed for me tonight and it re-enabled the verification scan. I am going to keep it enabled for now to see if this update solves the problem, if not I will disable it again.
Installed KB4052623 this morning and the WD Verification Scan is still disabled. Running the same system as bumboola. Go figure.
