Windows Module Installer I put my pension on it.
I haven't seen WMI turn System Restore back on ... even when doing dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase .. which kicks off WMI/TIWORKER hasn't turn it back on that I've seen ... but there really is no telling what can turn it back on

Update: It dawned me ... I might have not actually run that command since turning off System Restore. Just ran it and System Restore didn't get turned back on.

I'm trying to adopt the attitude that it's like living next door to the Airport. Hoping I'll get used to it.

Back to Windows Defender. I'm curios to know what protection settings members are using. In the main, "Cloud Delivered Protection" and "Automatic Sample Submission" I don't use Cloud, so I have "Cloud Delivered Protection" turned OFF.
Would turning this feature ON give me better protection?
    Thanks

I use the defaults ... Not to sure about Automatic Sample Submission, but Cloud Delivered Protection is to help defend against Zero-Day exploits.

Check out this thread - 'Cloud delivered protection', Really? - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums

    FYI ...
Open PowerShell as Admin > Get-MpPreference
Shows a list of WD settings/values and you can change/set them using Set-MpPreference setting value

Defaults or "On" for nearly all the WD options/settings. Except Account Protection, "OFF" because I don't want to have to sign with my Microsoft Account.

I was wondering if disabling the Windows Defender Verification scheduled task would stop these ridiculous Windows Module Installer SR points. I haven't tried that yet but I will try it tonight. Any thoughts on this?

I want to say @Eagle51 tried that (and it didn't work) and noted in a post back up in this thread. Might be wrong, but …

So far as I can tell, no one has found a ay to turn them off for any length of time.

Can't remember if I tried that or not, so let us know :)

Note: I bet it'll stop the restore point from getting created for a day, then it'll get re-enabled .. any takers :)

I'll surely let you know when the next Windows Defender definition update occurs. I suspect that the task will be reset and enabled again (along with the other Defender tasks) when the next Defender platform update happens.

Hi, Eagle51. So far so good. Disabling the Windows Defender verification scheduled task worked. The Defender definition was updated on 08/24 but no Windows Module Installer was added to System Restore points. Did it on 2 computers, 1 Desktop and 1 Laptop. We'll have to wait until Windows Defender platform is updated (usually at the end of the month or the beginning of the next month) to see if Microsoft took care of the issue. If not will just disable Windows Defender verification scheduled task again. Seems like a good workaround.
