Windows 10: Bogus "Microsoft" Telephone calls

Sadly the Fraud Squad has been severely depleted, with staff 'stolen' for such tasks as the Grenfell Tower fire and terrorism. At one point they were not taking on new cases for 6 months, and staff felt they were at risk of being taken off long-running investigations. Frauds of £50-70m go uninvestigated. So alas, cold callers are unlikely to merit attention. To get caught, one has to be be truly stupid, most of the time, or have done something that is in the headlines.

I had 200 numbers barred on my call barring device as bought, then added progressively another 200-250.

Using the free challenge system I no longer need that call barring device,
Ours is built into the phone though.

I'm sorry to state the obvious but @dalchina (who is from the UK) said you can make a white-list.

This is nothing to do with your phone - it is a free service your provider gives. Perhaps you should PM him/her if you find it confusing.

I wish you could do this in France but you only have the option to blacklist people which frankly doesn't work as they always find another number to call from.

Blocking these calls by number usually isn't effective. They generally use VOIP techniques over the Internet, often from a call center in India, with no originating phone number. The number you see in call display is fake and can be different for each call.

I am also from the UK and I think I know how it works. It's the BT 8500 model which has Truecall functionality built in, the same service that you can get as an app on your phone.

Talktalk and Sky both provide the challenge system for free.

My main reason for starting this post was to try to make people who were not aware that these calls from people who say they are from Microsoft are not from Microsoft and that it is a scam maybe if you have any older relatives that you could warn them about it also anyone you work with the main thing is to get this out to help people who would believe these scammers Also we are getting calls from an American sounding female recording saying that BT is working near you and are going to cut off your internet if this is all right push one if not push two I do not know how scam works but as I am not on BT I know it is a scam

They do say that you should try to avoid saying "yes" on the phone as scammers may be recording the conversation and use your voice to scam you.
