    Hi.
Wynona is right; don't turn off Windows Firewall. But, you should also check if there is a firmware update for your router.
I would recommend running ADWCleaner just to see if there isn't something in that system that shouldn't be there.

If you want a more robust firewall than Windows, use the free version of ZoneAlarm.

    .
Thanks, Simrick. I used Zone Alarm a long, long time ago, when it was freeware. When they started charging, there was no longer a free version and I couldn't afford to pay, so gave it up. I'd all but forgotten about it.

Thanks to Wynona and simrick... I misspoke earlier. I meant to say turn off Defender Firewall only and let the modem and router firewalls handle things. But, I will also run the ADWCleaner and check out the ZoneAlarm Firewall as well. Thanks to you both.
OK, but Defender still doesn't have a firewall. The link I gave above is from the "for Dummies" book series and explains where and what the Windows firewall is. Although it starts off saying Windows 7, the information is general and applicable to Windows 10.

As for turning off Windows Defender, it is compatible with most AV programs and will play nicely with a second AV of your choice. So, not only is it safe to leave Windows Defender running, you get a double dip of safety.

I'm still looking Weybrew. So far, what I've read has me totally confused and I don't want to misdirect you. When I read the blog about the release of Windows 10 Build 17704, it seems to me that it could go either way.

    Finally, Weybrew!

Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off

You should always run Windows Defender Firewall even if you have another firewall turned on. Turning off Windows Defender Firewall might make your device (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to unauthorized access.

    • To turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off, select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Firewall & network protection. Choose a network profile, and then under Windows Defender Firewall, switch the setting to On or Off.
    • Note: If your device is connected to a network, network policy settings might prevent you from completing these steps. For more info, contact your administrator.

This comes directly from Microsoft and the first sentence says it all! Don't turn off Windows Defender or its firewall!

Yup, I was wrong and I'm sorry I misled you. Here's the URL:

Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security Looks like this...
Two ways to get to it, might be more, but its listed under Windows administrator tools. You can also type Windows Firewall, in your search window and it will list it there also. Under the name I put in Bold font. Hope this helps you.

Here is some more info for you....also a link to a Microsoft article on the firewall.

Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security. Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security is a host firewall that helps secure the device in two ways. First, it can filter the network traffic permitted to enter the device from the network, and also control what network traffic the device is allowed to send to the network.
