    Encryption

Now that I have Win 10 Pro I can encrypt files and folders. So I tried a test file. To my surprise it remains fully visible and copyable. I am the only user and I suppose the encryption password is my user password, so the encryption is transparent to me.

Is it possible to select a different password so that anyone (including remote technicians, visitors, thieves) except me cannot view a file?

You might prefer to go 3rd party (free).

    I guess you're referring to:

I looked at bit locker and it seems to be for entire disk bootups rather than for individual files or directories. MS also suggests contacting Administrator for some circumstances, which implies that it is designed for large group use.

What I want is to encrypt a file or directory and have the system demand a password to open it. Oh, and if the file is copied the encryption should go with it. I did look at some 3rd party products which seemed overly complex to implement and use. But I'll sharpen my search and see what else is out there.

I'm trying out Winzip, which looks pretty good.

Thanks as always for your good advice!
