    Windows Defender and anti-virus softwarea

If I have a strong, constantly updated anti-virus software installed on my laptop, do I need Windows Defender? Should/can I turn it off? It seems like overkill.
    Thanks in advance.

...then Defender's real-time protection is automatically turned off so it won't conflict. Defender is still available to do an on-demand scan though, so it is still of some benefit. The Windows Defender Security Centre has other functions besides real-time protection, those too remain available.
