What the heck is AutoKMS is doing on a page like that. Other one I recognize is DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), my legitimate and clean version was flagged too a while ago but I white listed it.

    A very good question?

as for the flagging of DDU I can understand it due to the low level at which it works can do serious damage. but in experienced hands can be invaluable

It works in safe mode, I don't know how twitchy is WD in safe mode. DDU is portable applications and leaves no trace.

I use WD all the time and nothing else. Have used it since it came out and have had no trouble at all with it. So I don't care what that guy stated. it does the job end off

Magazine AV reviews always rate Windows Defender as terrible... worse than useless.... junk..... and other less than complementary comments.

    Are these justified...?

For example, let us take the review in the August 2018 edition of Computer Shopper.... and I quote....

".....we simply cannot stress enough just how bad the protection you get from Windows Defender is. If you are using it switch to something else immediately...... if you are relying solely on Windows Defender, all we can say is stop now and use one of the packages that we have on test....."

Since the release of W10 I have had all my W10 machines using Windows Defender. Once a week I run an independent Malware and Anti Virus scan. In all this time the weekly scans have NEVER detected something that WD missed. My computers are connected to the Internet 24/7 and some are used for online research by non-tech users, who have little regard for security.

Perhaps magazine reviewers are subconsciously biased towards vendors that provide the magazine with lucrative advertising revenue...?

Permit me to partial quoting what member jimbo45 has posted :
.like all these things it really depends on what you do on your computer -- in any case the best A/V is actually YOU. !!!
.Unless you are a huge user of sites like "The P***** Bay" or similar downloading huge amounts of pirated content you are unlikely to get riddled with serious viruses anyway these days.
.Personally I don't see what any A/V could do to defend you against scams such as what appear to be genuine Govt / Banks etc sending emails that you are due a refund please click !!!!
.You are more likely to get scammed via identity fraud, "cloned" websites etc etc than get infected with malware even if you only have WD on your system. No A/V software can prevent those sorts of attacks.

I believe that says it all.

P.S. I am one of those using WD only. Not even free edition of Malwarebytes.
I have 5 computers , all same setup. That's about 3 years now. No virus issue at all.

I just opened a page and guess what:
    Attachment 193269
The page is: Consistent Motherboard (CMB-945) CONSISTENT If using another AV, try to open it.

After reading this and the comments below I decided to install Norton and see what happens......Norton did not like the site your link directed us to either....

If it weren't for WD, my PC would be now crawling with viruses. It's actually a lifesaver for me! :)

    Hi folks

AutoKMS is often used to bypass Ms activation stuff so how it got on to your system ???? - Usually this type of program comes from those "unofficial" sites containing pirated copy of software.

Anyway WD detected it so simply remove it.

Personally for Internet surfing these days I prefer to use a VM or a totally Sandboxed machine so if anything gets hosed up just delete the VM / Sandboxed data and your main machine should be OK.

    Cheers

It didn't get into my system WD stopped it before it got in. It showed up as soon as I opened that page. Checked 3 times and it happened every time. Subsequent scans showed no trace. Security center and WD are at defaults, all lights are green. That site is for specific HW, so what the heck were all those doing there ?.
