".....we simply cannot stress enough just how bad the protection you get from Windows Defender is. If you are using it switch to something else immediately...... if you are relying solely on Windows Defender, all we can say is stop now and use one of the packages that we have on test....."
There is a lot of sensationalist reporting - one needs to consider the source before making any judgments...

KAV Free 19 now includes System Watcher, so it is the same as paid KAV. I guess the bad publicity helped, since some people are not comfortable buying it, but it gets easier, when they get fully featured AV for free.
Yo..., bro... Where do you get KAF 19?

I see they have kfa18.0.0.405aben_12579 as official... (unofficially the latest is kfa18.0.0.405abcdefen_13719) before updates.

TairikuOkami, thank you for your reply. You will note from my first Post that the review that I am referring to is in the latest Computer Shopper magazine, which is August 2018, issue 366. One must assume that the review was written shortly before publication, which was only a few days ago.

A general comment for all who have contributed to this Thread....... If you have the latest Computer Shopper available where you live then it might be worth 5 minutes of your time to read the review of WD. I cannot recall, in recent times, such a damning review.

If the review is accurate then there is real need for concern. If the review is nonsense, then the reviewer should be dismissed.

I've taken the liberty of posting the assessment since this is important and those better qualified than me can comment.

That's pretty irrelevant without knowing test methods and what they tested with.

In my humble opinion and experience, installing a third-party AV into w10 is looking for trouble, even if everything is running fine at first. You have bigger odds something really bad happen to your system sooner or later. Of course you can be lucky where nothing bad happens, but think about doing a big w10 update with an AV other than WD, for instance.
That is not to say I am either a WD fanboy or such. Unfortunately Windows Defender does its work but it's not the fastest one out there.

Something bad can happen, if you're running only WD, too.

The 'bad things' eLPuSHeR was thinking of were not viruses, rather the 3rd-party AV causing a Features Update to fail. Avira in particular has a track record of doing that.

Bad things can happen with any AV. It all depends on the users browsing habits.

    Consider this...

WD history is appalling... so let that be - it was cow-dung but has improved of recent to be a contender - and can only get better as MS gets enough telemetry from other AV update definitions -- Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V ... easy-peasy.
