Windows 10: Windows Defender Scheduled Scan returns result 0x2

    This is the error:
"The operator or administrator has refused the request. (0x800710E0)"
On the one that works it shows "Incorrect function. (0x80070001)". smh
Been awhile since I set up my custom scan and now that you mention it, I think I got that error or one like it about administrator. So I added administrator to Windows Credential Manager > Windows Credentials > Generic Credentials which got rid of the error.

    Internet or Network Adress: PcName\administrator
    User Name: PcName\administrator

Note: I'm using a local account as admin, if it matters.

I just was playing around on one that doesn't work. This time it popped open the Defender Security Center like it does on the one that works but definitely no scan ran. This time it shows the same message "Incorrect Function..." as the one that does work. Its really enough to make one insane.

I'm adding credentials to see if it helps. The first set didn't help, for this one does it mean the administrator name" or just "administrator", I also use a local account as admin.

I fear this is hopeless but can't hurt to try.

I added them both, didn't make bit of difference. And FWIW on the PC that does run the daily scan I never did anything with credentials that I could remember so checked. There was a generic one for just Username. So I added that credential to one that doesn't run. No difference.

I give up. I really feel like just disabling Defender but not even sure that can be done. It is just maddening how messed up the program is.

    Hey bru,
I'm curious what command you're using for your wd task (i.e. Action Tab). I'm just doing a daily signature update and quick scan.

Its slightly different. I think it handles the pop up window differently. I also don't have it scheduled within Windows Defender like you do but at the top in Task Scheduler Library.

    "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe" -UpdateandQuickScan.

I guess the point is I have it scheduled exactly the same in four computers but it only works in one. I should also say that I created a task to update the definition every four hours and afaict that works fine on all computers.

And now add the fact that I see the actual Defender tasks built in have yet to run since I updated to 1803 and it just reaffirms how messed up it all is.

Yep, we shouldn't have to do work arounds for this stuff.

To all that have replied: The custom scan for Defender that I created works perfectly on both of my computers. For my Custom Scan in the action tab Start a program I entered "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -Scan -Scan Type 1. Scan Type 1 is for Quick Scan. You can use Scan Type 2 for a Full Scan. Of course we shouldn't have to do this if Microsoft took care of the problem! In my case the only one of the 4 built in Defender tasks with the problem is the Scheduled Scan task. Good luck to everyone with this issue.
