What Are All the Programs I Need to Detect Viruses?

I got Windows Defender. Is this all I need to stop malware, viruses and spyware? If not what do you suggest?

No detection program is ever going to stop everything, or be equally good at each class of nastiness.

A white-listing program seems a great option. I like SecureAPlus, which can be run alongside traditional AVs.

And maintain your disk images, so your ultimate security is to be able to restore a virus-free environment.

The most important protection is common sense. Don't visit 'dubious' websites and don't click on suspicious links or attachment in emails

For my part, I just use Defender as the AV, but occasionally scan with AdwCleaner to reassure myself (it never finds anything).

Another vote here for regular disk images - apart from a fall-back in case of a virus, it also protects against drive failures or system crashes that corrupt the install beyond repair.

Says in your specs you are running Avast Free, along with the built in Defender. But, agree with previous posts.... Best AV is you and a good backup plan that is followed regularly.

I had Avast until someone suggested I uninstall it to run tests on my PC. But I dont understamnd what you mean by, "Best AV is you." What does this mean? Do you mean that I should continue using WD only and use backups?

That's a sound basis. You can expand on it later if you want, but that's a good plan. As was mentioned, backups are not only for protection against Life on the Net, they a solid way of protecting against hardware failures, too. It's your insurance.

Appreciate it. But my mouse's left click isn't working after I got rid of a lot of spyware and virus. I have to click on the left button hard when I didnt have to before. Do you have an answer for this?

And I ran adwcleaner and rkill. They displayed these problems below. How can I remove them from my PC?

I hope you meant to say you ran Rkill then AdwCleaner, it has to be in that order so that Rkill can stop any processes that would try to stop AdwCleaner working.

When AdwCleaner reports detections, it also offers a 'clean' button. Did you not use it?
