Is there a way to check if your router has been hacked? I have a Virgin Media Superhub whose firmware is updated automatically I understand.

Check specifically with your router manufacturer - I would assume that in your case this would be Virgin Media, but could be the actual manufacturer Virgin use.

I have recently changed my router to a Netgear Nighthawk, which is on the FBI list, (an earlier version is, in fact, not mine specifically), and I was informed that my current firmware is already fully patched against this potential threat. And obviously I have rebooted the router many times whilst setting up and reset to default a few times, ( I always try to learn the idiosyncrasies of any new hardware).

I always change all the defaults that are changeable in all network, (and other), hardware, even down to the IP range, SSID, and all passwords - I also predefine the IP addresses issued to my own devices by dhcp to their MAC address, and then lock the DHCP down to refuse new devices

Oh and when I read the initial report that was given to the FBI the word Russia was not present, just the fact that the complexity of the malware was consistent with that of a national agency development, the fact that the malware seemed to be explicitly targeting the Ukraine was also mentioned. Obviously there is a case for russian involvement (probably using a CIA or NSA malware toolkit), but Bad Boris reports do sell papers and websites at the moment

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

Very much so but also many causes to develop it.

    By quoting Barman58:
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean the threat isn't real. IMHO, doing as FBI suggests require little effort, now does it?
